Insightful, delightful and entertaining some of the time.
Post-Lasik Day 3 and 4
03:08AM September 23, 2008
Day 3 – Hanging out and Shopping:
My left eye is in fairly good shape, the right is quite a bit drier than I would prefer and wears out what seems to be hours before the left but overall it’s not bad. Vision is highly refined in my left eye overall, the right seems to be off just a bit but since it’s not my dominate eye it’s not much of a issue. The lack of 20/20 in my right eye could also be caused due to the dryness, but I think it maybe off just a hair, although not enough to make me concerned. We will see as the healing continues.
Tanya and I did a bunch of running around town, as long as I didn’t focus on one thing for too long, or look at a computer monitor or TV for more than a few minutes everything was great. A bit dry requiring occasional eye dampening but other than that a good day. Big box stores are a no-no at this point, we stopped at a few and Home Depot/Costco are bad combinations currently, I’m assuming it’s due to the relative humidity and airflow in the stores.
By about 8:00PM my eyes were pretty much wore out. Keeping them moist gave me another hour or so but at a certain point my right eye was feeling like it was going to jump out of my head so I started a audio book and went to bed. I would say I got a good 10 hours of quality vision today before my eyes wore out.
Another note – I’ve noticed that my eyes are WAY more comfortable around the house if the humidity if high. Having it at 65%+ was much more comfortable than the 40-55% my house normally sits at.
Day 4 – First day back at work:
Today I went to work for the first time since my surgery. Made for a interesting day, had to take frequent monitor breaks (not a problem, plenty of meetings) . It didn’t take long to comprehend the difference between being out of the office and being able to keep up on email and being out of the office and not being able to keep up on email (for this event it turned out to be about 250 messages :^)).
As long as I wet my eyes every hour or so and did not sit in front of the computer for any significant length of time my eyes were in good shape. Another trick I used was to turn off my office lights and wear my sunglasses while working on the computer (I also could have turned down the brightness on the monitors), which made me a bit more comfortable. Eyes didn’t cause any major problems, but I am still finding that my right eye isn’t quite in sync with my left, once again it might be due to my left eye being in better shape at keeping itself moist.
The feeling of “something in my eye” continued today, it would migrate between my eyes and sometimes not exist, seemed to be related to how moist they were and whether I was looking at one object for a length of time.
The evening was similar to the day, no real issues until about 9:00ish PM when my right eye started feeling pretty beat up. I’m only able to spend a moment at a time looking at the computer but now I’m settled in, have treated my eyes and am getting ready to listen to more of my audiobook. Today is the last day of my antibiotic drops and tomorrow I start weaning off of the Prednisone drops. I guess that means I’m getting past the bad part :^).
Still very happy I had the procedure done, each day it gets a bit better.
